Ranked Choice Voting Is Here

Ensure Your Vote Is Counted

This year will be the first election using Ranked Choice Voting. This system allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference rather than selecting just one. If no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed to the voters’ next choices. This process continues until a candidate secures a majority, ensuring the winner has broader support among voters. This will apply to all races other than School Board.

Here is a video that explains how it works and shows that an early front-runner is not always the winner: How does ranked-choice voting work?

How to Vote Correctly:
✅ Mark one candidate per column
✅ Rank candidates in order of preference. Mark 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, etc.
✅ If your top choice is eliminated, your vote moves to your next choice.
✅ Keep ranking! This ensures your vote still counts even if your first choice doesn’t win.

Example Ballot:
1️⃣ Green – Your favorite
2️⃣ Orange – A strong second choice
3️⃣ Blue – You’d be okay with this option
4️⃣ Purple – Not your top pick, but still a choice

What NOT to Do:
❌ Don’t mark the same candidate multiple times – It won’t help them.
❌ Don’t skip choices.
❌ Don’t rank just one candidate! Ranking multiple choices won’t hurt your favorite.

Ranked Choice Voting gives you more power and ensures that the winner has broad support. If your top choice can’t win, your vote still matters!
