What a weekend! Halloween packed the Village. I saw lots of top-tier costumes, and by Sunday morning, everything was spotless and spooky-free thanks to crews and volunteers. Between a quick brunch, the farmers market, and a handful of sidewalk chats, I heard a lot about Avenue H and the waterfront plan.
Here’s what’s moving, why it matters, and where to weigh in next.
🚓 Public Safety & Neighborhood Traffic
🔹 Avenue H holiday lights plan (Consent Item H.7) — Council will consider the same traffic/safety setup that worked last season—signage, a temporary evening roundabout, and added trash cans during peak hours. I support keeping what works so residents and visitors can enjoy the lights and keep the neighborhood moving.

🛶 Waterfront & Environment
🔹 Public Boat Launch at Mole D (Item N.1) — Staff and the Harbor Commission point to Option E as the best overall compromise: wider navigation, safer vehicle/ped circulation, and minimal environmental impact. If you boat, paddle, fish, or just love the waterfront, I think this will be a good solution for all.
🏠 Housing & Services
🔹 Emergency pallet shelter funding (Consent Item H.15) — Vote to continue the operating agreement using PLHA funds. It’s practical short-term safety while we work on long-term solutions.
🧑⚕️ Health & Regional Collaboration
🔹 BCHD Strategic Development Half-Day — I joined local leaders and partners to sharpen near-term health priorities and collaboration across the Beach Cities. These cross-agency sessions help us align on prevention, mental health support, and services that residents actually use.

🛍️ Local Economy
🔹 Casa Playa now serves Sunday brunch (from 9am) — Great energy this weekend; strong foot traffic is good news for the Village.

🔹 The Montauk (soft launch) — I had a chance to take my wife out for date night, and it was delicious! It’s sure to be a promising addition; official opening next month. Supporting openings like this keeps our dining scene vibrant!

📚 Libraries & Learning
🔹 North Branch “Express Hours” are live — Monday–Thursday, 9–11 a.m. self-service access (Wi-Fi, computers, self-checkout, study rooms, printing).

🔹 KEB community cleanups — Thanks to the volunteers who make our coastline and bikeways shine; small acts add up.

🔹 South Bay Parkland Conservancy (SBPC) — Ongoing restoration across the bluffs and Wilderness Park + Poppy Talk (First Mondays, 8–9:30 a.m. at Klatch Coffee)—great way to connect with local naturalists and neighbors.
