Cal Water – Water Main Project

Residents should have received a letter from California Water Service about an upcoming water main project beginning in May 2026. Below is a copy of the letter that was sent out.

May 4, 2026

Dear Customer:

California Water Service (Cal Water) is pleased to inform you of an upcoming water
infrastructure upgrade project. The project goal is to improve water supply reliability for fire
protection in your area.

Scope of Work
The project consists of installing 1,800 feet of a new 6-inch water main pipeline.

  • On S. Helberta Ave (from 1300 block to 1200 block.)
  • On Avenue D (from the intersection of Ave D onto the 1300 block of S. Helberta Ave)
  • On S. Irena Ave (from the intersection of S. Irena Ave and Palos Verdes Blvd)
  • On the intersection of S. Prospect onto S. Irena Ave

Timeline
Construction will start on May 18, 2026 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of July 31, 2026. The work consists of the following activities:

  • Exploratory Investigations/potholing
  • Construction/Installation of the water main pipeline infrastructure
  • Restoration including paving

The work will be performed Monday through Friday between 9:00am and 3:30pm. The work
will be completed in phases throughout the project footprint to allow for roadway access.

What to Expect
We will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction. You can expect traffic
control along the roadway and construction noise. “NO PARKING” signs will be placed 48 hours
in advance as required. Please note that city parking requirements are still in effect in
construction zones.

If water service interruption is required, we will notify you prior to any planned shutdown. To
fulfill water quality requirements, water flushing may be required. Please be assured that we are
committed to conservation and will flush only if necessary.

When completed, all streets, curb, and gutters impacted by the construction will be restored to
existing or better condition. Please be aware that temporary asphalt will be applied until
permanent paving is completed approximately 30 days after project completion. This time delay
is necessary to allow the trench to become fully compacted, so the road surface is smooth after
permanent paving is completed.

Notification
You will receive a notice 48 hours prior to the start of work in front of your property. Site specific
information and contractor contact information will be provided at this time.
We will work hard to minimize any temporary inconvenience to you as we make water system
improvements that will benefit our community for years to come. If you have any questions,
please contact me at (310) 257-1400.

Sincerely,
Cardinal Fernandezees III
Distribution Superintendent
